Neither Freedom of Navigation Patrols nor international law will constrain China. China opposes the principles of international law that the world wants to apply to the South China Sea and isn’t simply going to start to believe in them because the US ratifies LOST. In fact, China would be even more opposed to LOST if the US ratified it because it hates the US-led world order.
