At the last two tournaments I’ve judged (Minneapple, Scarsdale) debates where Pro teams made claims that universal background checks would reduce gun deaths (both homicides and suicides) anywhere from 25%-57%.
These claims come from studies that try to draw comparisons between states that have and do not have background checks. While I’m sure these UBC hack authors work hard to prove their case, the warrant that suggests UBCs are responsible for such large reductions in gun violence make absolutely no sense.
Just stop to think about it for a minute --
